The Champions of the Six Sigma program are the COO’s/Plant Head's who decide the Black Belt projects along with the Black Belts. They may assist more than one Black Belt. They also act as removers of roadblocks and provide the resources necessary for the smooth completion of projects. The Champion training is an executive level introduction to the Six Sigma methodology. This two day program introduces the DMAIC methodology, explains in detail the role of the champions in achieving business goals using Six Sigma and explains the selection criteria for Black Belt candidates and their projects.

The Black Belts are the engine of the process. They provide the initiative in working with their Champions to “Define” the project in rigorous detail and take responsibility to bring it to completion. They should work full time on Six Sigma projects. They are also responsible for guiding and facilitating Green and White Belt projects. They are also to help in disseminating the various statistical and problem solving tools to others in the plant.

The Green Belts are not only to execute their own Green Belt projects but also to use their experience with application of quality tools to help guide other White Belt teams and cross functional teams.

The White Belts have to apply the quality tools training to practical, well defined team projects and are expected to take up a subsequent project once the first one is complete.
