Since the year 2000 Anand U has been spearheading the Six Sigma initiative within the group.
This initiative was first developed and undertaken in Motorola in 1979 where it was extremely successful in bringing down the rejection rates for their pagers and arresting the decline of their market share. It has since been successfully adapted as a powerful management tool to bring about transformational change in both the service and manufacturing industries.
GE, Allied Signals, ABB amongst others are some of the companies that have improved their profit/cost ratio through the application of Six Sigma tools.
The term Six Sigma itself is a statistical unit for the measurement of dispersion , or the spread of data.. A Six Sigma level of quality would mean that there would be only 3.4 defects in a million opportunities.
Statistics show that every company that has implemented the Six Sigma program in its entirety has seen profit margins grow 20% year after year for each sigma shift. |
